The “Biennale”

The “Biennale”: is a permanent exhibition which is housed on various sites: “I Giardini”, “L’Arsenale”, theatres (Teatro alle Tese, Teatro dell’Arsenale, Teatro Verde, etc.) The attention of the “Biennale” is applied to the artists and their creativity, through precise cultural choices, and is not only reserved for the visual arts, but also dance, theatre, cinema, photography, etc….many events are also proposed in other Italian cities and abroad.
The first Biennale Art Exhibition was held in 1895 in the “Giardini” (gardens) of “Castello”, in the Italian Pavilion, and proposed works, which had never been seen before, also the vanguard, considered too audacious for other exhibitions.
The International Exhibition of Cinematographic Art (from the end of August to the beginning of September): It was inaugurated under the “Biennale” in 1932 and from 1934 is held every year in the Cinema Palace at Venice Lido and today in many other sites, for vanguard films, retrospectives, press conferences and prestigious prizes for the films, the actors and directors that distinguish this artistic competition every year.
The Permanent Theatre of Veneto,“Teatro Goldoni” offers a rich season of prose works, where as the theatres “Palafenice” and “Malibran” (completely renovated and recently re-opened to the public) offer a varied calendar of famous operas, ballets and concerts both in the winter and summer seasons.
Gambling fans can visit one of the most beautiful gaming houses in the world: the Venice Municipal Casino. It’s housed in “Cŕ Vendramin Caliergi”, in the district of “Cannaregio”, on the Grand Canal, first a large renaissance venetian palace, which became the site of the Casino in 1959.
